You never know whether or not there is any virus in the flash drive that you borrowed from your friends or in any Cds or DVDs you put in your CD or DVD-ROM. To make sure that our PC is protected from that possibilities we will need an anti-virus program or application. But in this post right now, i’m not going to write about any anti-virus program. What i’m intent to write is about one important thing that’ll affect the safety of our Windows system even the one with anti-virus program installed.

You all should already know about Auto Play feature in your Windows OS, right? Then this would make it easier for me, because i don’t have to write a long paragraph about what Auto Play feature is. I’ll just jump to the point then, because of that feature keep running, everytime you plug your flash drive or close your CD or DVD-ROM windows will always detect and this auto play feature will automatically read any folders and files inside the device ( flash drive and Cds ot DVDs ) and ask you what task would you like to perform to that device. When that happens, if there are any virus in it then your system will be in trouble if you’re not prepared with a powerfull anti-virus program.

Now i will just tell you how to turn that feature off, here is the 3 easy steps:

1. Open the Run Dialog Box, and type gpedit.msc

2. In the Group Policy window, go to directory Administrative Templates | System , then find Turn off Autoplay, double-click on it and then enable it.

3. Put a CD or DVD to check whether the feature is still running or not.

So, that’s it. I hope it’ll be helpful

Do you search on google a lot? If you do, and you feel like you deserve to get some thing, like a prize out of it, but it seems like there are no sign that google will give you some. Then, this could be the greatest chance for you to win some thing out of your searching act that you’ve done.

This search engine has it own tactics to attract visitors, Wabbadabba.com, not just that it has a nice and unique name, it also gives us a chance to win a prize, like amazon voucher, a movie ticket, or even a Plasma TV. Well, judging from the prize, Plasma TV, you might think that we need to fill any requirement like a paying membership, or invite people before we can try to win some prizes, but you are wrong because this search engine is also TOTALLY FREE !! you can just visit the site at Wabbadabba.com and start searching for your prize. But honestly i say, you better register first before searching, because then you can invite some friends to join, and if one of them win any prize you will get something too. And just so you know, having an account doesn’t mean you have more percentage to win, it only allow you to invite your friends.

And one last thing, to prevent any over-searching to doubled chances of winning, Wabbadabba.com limited our search till 150 searches a day, i know you want to search more, but who wouldn’t?

Actually, i should have told you about this tip in my earlier posts. Mainly because i think most of you already know about it, it is almost a must do things right after you have installed your Windows Operating System. Let’s get to the point then, i don’t know exactly why Microsoft make it this way. What i’m talking about is the MenuShowDelay in the Registry editor, i mean why did they set the value to 2000 (correct me if i’m wrong, because i can’t really remember it) instead of 0, which referring to a period of time delay when we point our mouse pointer through the menus in the Startmenu.

Now, you can change it by accessing to this directory in the Registry Editor: HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Control Panel | Desktop. In the window on the right find MenuShowDelay, double-click on it and then change the value to 0 (zero).

Ok, i’m done with the first tip, now the second tip is not in Regedit, you can close it now. In the second tip, we’ll be editing MSConfig. Here is what it is, when we runs a program it consumes our RAM (Random Access Memory), if we only have a common amount of RAM (256 or 512 MB) installed in our PC we will having a problem when we runs 2 or more programs that highly consumes RAM, at that moment our PC will processing like a slug or even aren’t moving at all some times. And what’s worst is when the system is out of RAM to use, it’ll use our hard drives too, as an information storage or usually called swapfile.

That’s why we need a conservative swapfile, that can help our RAM to runs more program than before. We can do that by tweaking MSConfig :

- click Startmenu / Run , type msconfig in the Run dialog box

- click on the tab SYSTEM.INI

- click on [386enh] under the tab SYSTEM.INI

- click New button that located on the right of the window

- type ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1?

- click OK, done.

It becomes easier and simpler to use. Now, the next one has come. MX Air™ Rechargeable Cordless Air Mouse allow us to control pointer movement with our motion-hand pointing method, the trick is, it use a set of acceleration censor device to translate the mouse movement in the air, just like playing with a stick pointing to the PC monitor. Let me put it this way, we can use this mouse as easy as using a remote control, there are also “Play”, “Stop”, and other buttons besides the “left”, “scroll”, and “right” buttons as what we always see in most mouse.Till now, what i’ve heard about this device is that for beginners, they’ll definitely need a little practice, because it is very sensitive of movement. But as long as we try to adapt, we will soon able to control our PC from the comfort of our sofa. And if you failed to adapt and you give-up to try any longer, you can easily use it as simple as usual mouse, because this device is designed for on-air and on-desk use. What makes it more interesting is, that it can detect hand movement combination that has been configured before, for example in Windows Media Player, to step to the next track, all we need to do is while we hold the mouse, swing our hand (in circle) to the right (clockwise).

Did you feel caution and afraid every time you have to leave your flashdisk alone? Or did you still afraid that your hacker friend will look at your files even though you have protected it with a password? And that feeling never leave you alone when lots of possibilities can happen, such as they break through your winrar password, they decrypt what you have encrypt, or they can even brought back the files you have deleted from your flashdisk, i should warn you those possibilities could happen.

But, thanks to Irikon™ flash memory, now we can relax, because it allow us to protect our files inside the flash memory with our own iris ( a part of human eye ). It all started in the country Korea, they come up with the idea of Iris-Scan feature. Where the Irikon™ flash memory were paired with a integrated camera that will be use as the device to scan the owner’s eye. With this technology, only the real owner can access the files.

Irikon™ flash memory is the world’s first flash memory implementing iris authentication and ensures that the confidential data in the flash memory is secured by the iris authentication process. No one other than the pre-registered user can access the data within the flash memory without taking the iris authentication process. Users do not need to recall passwords but simply gaze into the iris camera on the flash memory to activate.

What i know about the device is that it can save up to 20 eye, means 20 different users/owners. The eye data will be encrypted in 256-bit depth. As what the producer company, Rehoboth Tech said, the false acceptance rate is about 1:1,200,000. The device is available in 1, 2, or 4 gb capacity, and compatible with USB version 1.1 or above. Dunno about the price yet.

Every time you access your folders, windows will always update the ‘last accessed’ on your folders and all the sub-folders. Not to mention how many folders or sub-folders we have. For faster computer, this is not a problem, but for average or slower one, this simple thing could slower your access through folders and sub-folders. And i’m sure this facility is rarely being used by anyone. So i write this to tell you how to turn that off.

It is actually very easy, you can do it in less than a minute, here you go:

- just open registry window, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | System | CurrentControlSet | Control | FileSystem

- click on FileSystem, right-click on the area of the right window, choose New, DWORD Value

- rename the ‘New Value #1′ to ‘NtfsDisableLastAccessUpdate’, then double-click on it, change the value from zero (0) to one (1)

- click Ok and you’re finish.

If this steps is to straight-forward, and you cannot really understand it, you can check my other post about registry editing here, you could learn about editing registry there, because it’s more specific.

This post is quite short, but i hope it could be useful

Everyone agree that battery is the most important part of our digital devices? I think you do. Well, to agreed or not you still have to accept that our devices needs battery to live. Now let’s take a look at the battery we use right now, most of it shaped like this picture on the right, just for the record that picture is a Li-Poly battery for Motorola mobile. It is usually need at least an hour to be fully charged, a couple hours sometimes.

Now, do you ever wish you could charge your cellphone or laptop in a few seconds rather than hours? Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T) are developing a battery that could do just that, and also might never need to be replaced.

As our portable devices get more high-tech, the batteries that power them can seem to lag behind. But Joel Schindall and his team at M.I.T plan to make long charge times and expensive replacements a thing of the past–by improving on technology from the past.

They turned to the capacitor, which was invented nearly 300 years ago. Schindall explains, “We made the connection that perhaps we could take an old product, a capacitor, and use a new technology, nanotechnology, to make that old product in a new way.”

On top of that, the shape too, will not just be light-weighted, thin, or flexible, it could be made from a paper. It was researchers from Rensselaer Phytechnic Institute, who recently release this latest energy storage technology which dominantly made from cellulose which can be found in papers. Only they fill the paper with nanotube carbon , to used as electroda. As for prove, they have made a battery just a sized of a stamp that can lighten up a small fan or a LED light.

Ever think of another way of buying things other than going to a store or electronically (over the internet) ? Well, now you have to because there is one, it’s called the semacode system. You all know about barcode, right? This whole semacode system is all started from barcode. For you that doesn’t know about barcode, i’ll explain a little bit about it, barcode is a system that attached to a database which contains information like prices, types or else of a product from a store, you should know it because it’s just a common thing to meet in life, almost all department stores are using it now, it’s that scanner thing that cashiers use to scan the product that we pick when we give it to them at the cashier desk.Semacode use the same ways as barcode, only in semacode the scanners are a little bit different, we will need a mobile phone, but must has a camera embedded on it. Here is how it works, we’ll need a software though.

Semacode’s Software Development Kit is a system for ubiquitous computing. Using this software you can create visual tags for objects and contexts, and read them using a mobile camera phone. The software that runs on your phone will then deliver you to the appropriate mobile content.

Semacode works by embedding a URL (web address) into a sort of two-dimensional barcode which looks like a dense crossword puzzle — called the tag. The software contains capability to detect and decode the tag very rapidly with the camera on your phone. It extracts the URL and sends you to that address using the phone’s built-in browser. The user experience is simple to use and easy to learn. By connecting users from physical media to mobile content, the system creates new affordances, new ways to interact with the objects and media that surround us (including augmented reality, remote presence, social software and location tagging). There are a number of opportunities to use this technology to improve the way people interact and communicate.

In addition, this is an open system. Anyone can create as many semacode tags for as many different URLs as they wish. Millions, even. As long as you own the domain name, the tagging system is completely unrestricted. Better yet, all of the software tools are available freely for non-commercial use. Therefore it is possible to build a complete system (for non-commercial purposes) without restrictions.

Now it even better, not just we can instantly get access to the URL which contains the specs of the semacode-tag-ed product that we took pictures from. We could also buy that product too, how? It’s easy, the H&M company are already using this service. They incorporates semacode to their advertisements, we as readers and consumers has the option to purchase goods with our mobile phone by scanning the semacode bar or tag. Then we’ll be directed to a menu where size and color can be picked. The item will be charged to our cell phone’s bill. how about it?

How do you feel when you left your friend alone with your PC ? Did you worried about what they’re doing with your PC ?
It’s fine if they just use it to finish their homework, like just using Excel, Word, etc. But what if we don’t realize that what they really do is changing our windows settings ?
It is obvious that they can easily access our control panel from start menu, for just about 2 clicks they can get to ControlPanel window.

To avoid that, let me give you 3 simple and easy steps to make your Control Panel disappear from Start menu, but before that i need to warn you about editing your regedit, before you click here and there, you better backed your reg file, you can save the regedit by using the ‘export’ from the regedit menu, or you can use the system restore that is provided by windows by accessing Startmenu / AllPrograms / Accessories / SystemTools / SystemRestore, after you have the back-up reg file, or the system restored you are save to edit your registry :

1. Open the ‘Run dialog box’ from your Start menu, you can do it by clicking the Start button and then click on the ‘Run…’ menu, or you can also do it by click and hold the windows logo on the keyboard and then press ‘R’ ( +R ), in the Run dialog box type ‘regedit’ then click ‘Ok’.

2. In the Registry Editor window, from the folder tree, go to ‘HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Software | Microsoft | Windows | CurrentVersion | Policies | Explorer’, make sure you click on the folder ‘explorer’, then in the explorer window on the right of the folder tree just right-click on the area and choose New DWORD Value in the name of ‘NoControlPanel’, you have to type it carefully exactly like mine, check the capital letter, after the DWORD is added, double-click on it and a little window will appear, now change the value data from zero(0) to one(1) and then click ‘Ok’, you can close the Regedit window.

3. Now that you’re done, you wanna check whether your Control Panel are still on the Start menu or not, but if you do that right after you close your Regedit window i’m very sure that your Control Panel still staring at you from the Start menu. You wanna know why? i’ll tell you, it’s because the explorer needs to be restarted first.

There are three ways to restart your explorer, first is the easiest but take the longest time, just restart your PC, second is same as easy but takes less time, log off your PC and then log in again.
The last way need a little concentration, but it is the fastest, here is the steps:
- Open Windows Task Manager, go to Processes tab and find explorer.exe, after you’ve found it right-click on it and then choose End Proccess, but don’t close your Task manager quite yet.
- Now your taskbar will disappear and all you need to do next is to bring it back, and you can do it by going to the Applications tab in the Task Manager find New Task under it then click it, a small box will appear, type ‘explorer’ and click ‘Ok’, that’s it your taskbar will come back.

The last thing i should tell you is how to make the Control Panel access back to Startmenu, it is very easy indeed, all you need to do is go back to regedit, in step 2 above, i told you to change the value data of ‘NoControlPanel’ from zero(0) to one(1), this is the explanation: one(1) means disappear, and zero(0) will obviously means that it will not disappear, very easy right?

I really hope this information can be useful for you or anyone else.
